It is all about GREED and PROFITS with these drug making companies. I can't totally agree with all drugs but for long-term drugs, I may agree.
I had a personal experience with a heart doctor who tried to give me cholesterol drug (because he was on the panel of the drug company) and scared the shit out of me that if I didn't take it, I could soon have heart attack. Thanks to my family doctor who help explained and urged me to control by diet and exercise instead. (Thank God we still have GOOD doctors). That was 4 years ago and my cholesterol is now below the threshold.
