I stumbled on this site
and they had this article which confirms what I have written in my book OnTopOfCancer on diets.
In the gist,
1. Keep your diet low in total fat and very low in saturated fat. Eat the right fat like fish oil and flaxseed oil which are rich in Omega 3 instead of Omega 6. Flaxseeds contain two cancer-preventive compounds. So seafood and more seafood. Bad fats are processed oils like magarine. Reduce overall body fat!!! Good time to kept fit and lose all the fats... Perhaps I should check on how to lose those pounds too!
2. Increase Your Fiber Intake. I knew that.. but do I practice it.. you bet!.. Initially, I hated vegetables and fruits were acceptable but after my face-to-face with Cancer, my diet has changed from being a meat-eater to a vege-eater and I love it (after sometime). fiber absorbs bile acid and prevents them from reacting with other things in the stomach to create bad cancerous substances. "An Apple a Day May Keep the Cancer Doctor Away". Vegetables most important to reducing the risk of cancer are the cruciferous
vegetables : broccoli, cabbage, brussel sprouts, mustard greens,
kale, and cauliflower.
3.Eat more soy products but not those processed Soy products. The primary anti-
cancer value of soy seems to come from phytonutrients (for example, isoflavones) which inhibit
the growth of new blood vessels necessary for tumor survival. One serving of soy (equal to a 1/2 cup of cooked soybeans, tofu,
tempeh, or one cup of soy milk) a day can lessen the risk of cancer. I know, Soy saved me during my Chemotherapy journey.
4.Eat foods containing calcium. (ok, this I didn't know). Calcium also
binds cancer-producing bile acids and keeps them from irritating the colon wall. Best sources
of calcium are dairy products, such as yogurt, and bony fish.
5. Eat a diet high in antioxidants. Beta carotene fights against cancer by both boosting the
immune system and releasing a specific chemical called tumor necrosis factor.Best sources of beta carotene are sweet potatoes, carrots, cantaloupe,
pumpkins, butternut and other types of winter squash, spinach, broccoli, mango, papaya and pink grapefruit. Tomatoes contain lycopene, which enhances the absorption and utilization of beta carotene, so
eating tomatoes with beta carotene-rich foods provides an added boost. Carrots and tomatoes are
a good combination.
7. Get those yogurt - Acidophilus. These intestinal-friendly bacteria have been shown to have anti-cancer properties. It promotes good bacteria which is really going to help in nutrients digestion and also absorbs bile from creating cancerous materials.
8. Finally Green Tea, it inhibit the growth of cancer cells. Before reaching for coffee or other tea, why not reach for Green Tea... which I find difficult to do yet, but I will get there.
- They protect the membrane of intestinal cells.
- They prevent free-radical reactions that can cause bowel contents to be carcinogenic
- They prevent faulty metabolism in the cell, which can predispose a cell to becoming carcinogenic.
