Type 2 Diabetes Medication Complications (esp Cancer)

After a person has been diagnosed with diabetes, his or her physician will recommend certain methods to cope with the condition, including diet modification and exercise. The physician will also prescribe a diabetes medication or medications depending on the severity of the condition. These medications may need to be adjusted based on the patient's response to treatment; however, some of these drugs cause harmful side effects that lead to severe consequences in some cases.

There are six types of oral medications commonly used to treat diabetes. One group is sulfonylureas, which is a classification of drug that stimulates the beta cells located within the pancreas. This results in the pancreas producing more insulin to combat blood glucose levels. Examples to this variety include chlorpropamide, glyburide and glimepiride. The side effects vary and are dependent upon the drug. For instance, glyburide may result in hypoglycemia, blurred vision and nausea.

Another categorization of diabetes medication is meglitinides. Meglitinides increase insulin product by targeting the beta cells in the pancreas, as well. Examples of this type of medication include nateglinide and repaglinide. The side effects vary, but the more common ones are diarrhea, cold-like symptoms and joint pain.

Alpha-glucosidase inhibitors like meglitol and acarbose fall under this category. They act by blocking the breakdown of starches, and in some cases, they slow the digestion of some sugars, such as table sugar. This impediment on digestion occurs in the intestines. These drugs are taken with the first bite of every meal and slow down the elevation of blood sugar levels after eating. Gastrointestinal problems like diarrhea and gas are the most common side effects of these medicines.

DPP-4 inhibitors do not cause hypoglycemia, although they may cause headaches or upper respiratory infection symptoms. Drugs in this category like saxagliptin and sitagliptin work by stopping GLP-1, a naturally occurring compound, from breaking down. This permits GLP-1 to stay in the body and continue to be active for longer periods of time. This prevents glucose levels from dropping, since it is effective when glucose levels are high.

Biguanides are a classification of diabetes medication that prevents the liver from producing more glucose than what is needed. Additionally, biguanides help the muscle tissue to be more receptive to insulin, thus making insulin absorption easier. These drugs can cause diarrhea and other side effects that are generally mild.

The last diabetes medication type is thiazolidinediones, which assist insulin in working better in the fatty tissue and in the muscles. They reduce the amount of glucose produced in the liver, too. They tend to cause mild side effects, such as cold-like symptoms. However, the thiazolidinedione, Actos may cause bladder cancer. In fact, patients who take the drug in large doses or for prolonged periods of time have an increased risk for bladder cancer. Actos treats type II diabetes and has been linked to numerous cases of bladder cancer. In fact, in some countries, the drug has been banned or not prescribed to new patients. France is one country that took action from these findings. They pulled the drug from the market once they conducted their own study on the diabetes medication.

Eat what you can see!

Processed meats - AVOID it. This was the advice given to me by my ayurvedic doctor when I first went to him to discuss what I could do while recovering from cancer treatment.

Why?
1) You really don't know what is in it. How sure are you that it is made from real meat? And what part of the animal does the manufacturer use. I like Jamie Oliver video showing what is being used to make chicken nuggets... Watch it
2) Mostly, they add enhancers especially sodium nitrate... Why? Especially for red meat processed food, NaNO3 (Sodium nitrate) makes the processed meat look 'red', thus deceiving consumers that it is 'fresh' even though it has been processed for months. NaNO3 by itself is not that bad. It prevents bacteria growth in meats and reduces the need for other more harmful food additives. The problem is when NaNO3 is heated or put in acidic environment (e.g goes into our stomach). It forms a carcinogenic nitrosamines which is bad for us. In the 1920 when US forced food manufacturers to reduce NaNO3 in food, there was a drastic reduction in gastric cancer motality.
3) Lastly, MSG usually the companion of NaNO3 to enhanced food taste. I have written a number of post on this.

Here is a supporting article on processed meats.
and here

Someone told me this.. Eat what you see! Meaning if you cannot see a chicken meat, avoid it.

Microwaved food causes cacner

Here are some of recent scientific findings on microwaving food:

1. Microwaved foods lose 60 ~ 90% of the vital-energy field and microwaving accelerates the structural disintegration of foods.
2. Microwaving creates cancer-causing agents within milk and cereals.
3. Microwaving alters elemental food-substances, causing digestive disorders.
4. Microwaving alters food chemistry which can lead to malfunctions in the lymphatic system and degeneration of the body’s ability to protect itself against cancerous growths.

5. Microwaved foods lead to a higher percentage of cancerous cells in the bloodstream.
6. Microwaving altered the breakdown of elemental substances when raw, cooked, or frozen vegetables were exposed for even a very short time and free radicals were formed.
7. Microwaved foods caused stomach and intestinal cancerous growths, a general degeneration of peripheral cellular tissues, and a gradual breakdown of the digestive and excretive systems in a statistically high percentage of people.
8. Microwaved foods lowered the body’s ability of the body to utilize B-complex vitamins, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, essential minerals and lipotropics.
9. The microwave field next to a microwave oven caused a slew of health problems as well.
10. Heating prepared meats in a microwave sufficiently for human consumption created:
* d-Nitrosodiethanolamine (a well-known cancer-causing agent)
* Destabilization of active protein biomolecular compounds
* Creation of a binding effect to radioactivity in the atmosphere.
* Creation of cancer-causing agents within protein-hydrosylate compounds in milk and cereal grains.
11. Microwave emissions also caused alteration in the catabolic (breakdown) behaviour of glucoside – and galactoside – elements within frozen fruits when thawed in this way.
12. Microwaves altered catabolic behavior of plant-alkaloids when raw, cooked or frozen vegetables were exposed for even very short periods.
13. Cancer-causing free radicals were formed within certain trace-mineral molecular formations in plant substances, especially in raw root vegetables.
14. Due to chemical alterations within food substances, malfunctions occurred in the lymphatic system, causing degeneration of the immune systems’ capacity to protect itself against cancerous growth.
15. The unstable catabolism of micro-waved foods altered their elemental food substances, leading to disorders in the digestive system.
16. Those ingesting micro-waved foods showed a statistically higher incidence of stomach and intestinal cancers, plus a general degeneration of peripheral cellular tissues with a gradual breakdown of digestive and excretory system function.
17. Microwave exposure caused significant decreases in the nutritional value of all foods studied, particularly:
* A decrease in the bioavailability of B-complex vitamins, vitamin C, vitamin E, essential minerals and lipotrophics
* Destruction of the nutritional value of nucleoproteins in meats
* Lowering of the metabolic activity of alkaloids, glucosides, galactosides and nitrilosides (all basic plant substances in fruits and vegetables)
* Marked acceleration of structural disintegration in all foods.

So the best thing you can do for yourself is to throw away that microwave you have in your house

What has poor gut got to do with cancer?

When I completed my Chemo, I went straight to a Ayurvedic doctor and ask for help. He immediately put on a high dose of probiotics and diet. At that time, I couldn't figure why but after 2 years of learning more about cancer and prevention -- it makes a lot of sense to me now.

The Gut is the first place where food enters. We know good nutrition is vital to cancer prevention. Good nutrition with bad absorption is just wasting good stuff. In fact, if the gut is poor cause more toxins in the system and create even more problems like IBS, Crohn disease and ulcerative colitis.

After doing conventional cancer treatment, the gut has gone through a traumatic experience and probably compromised. My ayurvedic doctor was trying to make my gut heal. It will take some time but I understand now - why.

Here is another article why poor gut can cause cancer.

Spirulina shown to prevent and treat cancers while boosting immune system function

As part of my daily regiment is to take Spirulina supplements.
"High levels of chlorophyll in spirulina may explain its ability to stop cancer colonies from forming"

I will shut up and let you read the article instead.
