Antibiotics and it's dangers
It is always tough when you are suffering or in pain and need to decide if you want to take the antibiotics that the doctor gave you.
Like most people I go see the doctor and in my part of the world, antibiotics are prescribed like they are candy.
My wife suffered from IBS because of antibiotics. This was almost 20 years ago. She complained of a major sore throat and one type of antibiotics after another was given to her. She was eventually cured of the sore throat but little did we know, her problems were just beginning. She started to complain of stomach cramps and this became more frequent and more intense. Of course every visit to the doctor meant more medications. Sometimes with more prescribed antibiotics. This went on for years. Finally, she said enough and started to investigate her problem and she later found out about Irritable Bowel Syndrome and traced it back to one critical episode. Today, she is still suffering from IBS but we have learnt how to manage the problem. She also became allergic to a lot of foods. She has kept a blog and an ebook to share her journey
Antibiotics like cancer chemotherapy. It kills all bacteria regardless of good or bad ones. It kills everything in the stomach and leave behind a long term problem. They also generate toxins in the body. When good bacteria are destroyed, we can have improper digestion, poor nutrient absorption and also damage the ‘safety wall’ in our gut against damaging viruses and other nasty things. Some these good bacteria have been known to generate vital Vitamins like B and K which our own body needs. Imagine that if we have these good bacteria, we have a free supply of vital vitamins. When the good bacteria is destroyed, the ‘safety wall’ in our gut is not strong or crumbling, bad bacteria and nasty thing like yeast will form and they cause a whole range of problems like IBS, leaky gut and allergies.
So what can you do if you have to take antibiotics to cure that ailment? Just replenish the gut. Take probiotics, yogurt, kefir, fruit enzymes and fermented foods like sauerkraut, kimchi, fermented toufo. Natural probiotics are manuka honey, garlic and onions. These will help in replenishing what you have lost. Even on good days, we should put these foods into the body to keep the gut healthy.
I remember reading an article that basically said something like this: “A healthy gut means a healthy body. Take care of your gut, it is the first place where nutrients are absorbed and bad things are expelled”
