Cancer in Malaysia - Cancer Control

This is an interesting podcast with Dr Saunthary Somasundram of the National Cancer Society Malaysia (NCSM) which focuses on Cancer in Malaysia.

What are the causes of cancer and why we should control cancer. Here are some points, I got from the podcast.

1 in 4 people in Malaysia will get cancer and in 10 years, it will become 1 in 3.

Physical Activity is very important to control cancer. Physical activity can boost immune system to fight cancer.

Diet can help boost immune system. Reduce red meat. Eat more fruits

Smoking causes 25% to 30% of all cancer.

40% of cancer is preventable.

Prevention is 1) Screening and 2) Noticing symptoms early.
Screening test are available to address 5 major cancer which comprise of 50% to 60% of all cancers.

"Cancer Treatment is worst than the cancer" Is this true? (from my perspective, it is. I guess unless one has gone through it, one cannot understand the effects of conventional treatment).

Chemotherapy was invented for leukemia in 1947. Advances in Chemotherapy has significantly improved over the years.

How to mitigate Cancer cost? - Insurance. Early detection can reduce treatment cost.

Cancer is no longer a dreaded disease - it is curable. We can fight Cancer.
